How to move your TpT store to Shopify
Going Basic in 2027? Your own Shopify store keeps about 97% of each sale instead of 55%. Here's the whole move.
Before you start
- Check your tier. Exclusive sellers can't sell paid digital resources on their own store. See the Exclusive rules.
- Gather your files. Put your PDFs in one folder, named like your listings.
- Budget. Shopify Basic is $39/month ($29 billed yearly) plus card fees. The free Digital Downloads app delivers files.
1. Export your listings
TpT has no export button. Copy each listing by hand, or use LessonCrate to get a Shopify-ready CSV of your whole store: titles, formatted descriptions, prices, tags and images. Products arrive as drafts, so nothing goes live early.
2. Import into Shopify
- Shopify admin → Products → Import.
- Upload
shopify.csv. Leave “Overwrite products with matching handles” off. - Check the preview, then Import products.
3. Attach your files
Install Digital Downloads. On each product, choose More actions → Digital Downloads, upload the PDF, and set the status to Active. Sort both lists by title and work down them together.
4. Keep TpT buyers finding you
As a Basic seller you can keep your TpT listings for discovery and send your email list and Pinterest traffic to Shopify. Link your store from your TpT bio and freebies.
Common problems
Some images failed to import
Re-import the same CSV with “Overwrite products with matching handles” on. It retries images without duplicating products.
Descriptions mention TpT
Search Shopify's bulk editor for “green star”, “TpT credit” and “feedback” and remove those lines.
Sales tax
TpT handles sales tax for you; Shopify doesn't by default. Check your state's rules or use Shopify Tax. Not tax advice.
Skip the retyping
