TpT vs Payhip for teacher sellers

Payhip keeps almost everything. TpT brings the buyers. Which one wins depends on whether you already have your own audience.

What you keep per sale

FeesKeep on $5Keep on $1.50
TpT Basic45% + $0.30 per resource$2.45$0.53
TpT Exclusive22.5% (+ $0.15 under $3) + $59.95/yr$3.88$1.01
Payhip free5% + card fees$4.31$1.08
Payhip Plus ($29/mo)2% + card fees$4.46$1.13

Card fees assumed at 2.9% + $0.30 on a single-item order. Bundles and multi-item carts do better. Exclusive's yearly fee isn't spread per sale.

The catch: Payhip has no shoppers

Payhip is a checkout, not a marketplace. Nobody browses it looking for resources, so every sale comes from traffic you send: your email list, Pinterest, a blog, Instagram or Facebook groups. TpT's higher fee pays for the teachers already searching there.

That makes the choice simple. With no audience of your own, Payhip's better rate applies to almost no sales. With one, Payhip can keep you 75% more per sale than TpT Basic.

Which Payhip plan

  • Free, 5% per sale: start here.
  • Plus, $29/month and 2%: worth it above about $970 a month in Payhip sales.
  • Pro, $99/month and 0%: worth it above about $3,500 a month.

Moving to Payhip

Payhip has no product import, so each resource is added by hand: title, description, price, cover, file. Start with your top 20 sellers (TpT's Product Statistics shows which ones), not the whole catalog. The Payhip move guide covers the steps, and the Exclusive vs Basic calculator shows how much you'd need to sell off TpT to come out ahead.

Questions

Is Payhip better than TpT?

Payhip keeps you much more per sale (about $4.31 of $5 on the free plan, against $2.45 on TpT Basic), but it has no marketplace. Buyers only come from your own email list, Pinterest, blog or social media.

Which Payhip plan should a teacher seller use?

Start on the free plan (5% per sale). Plus ($29/month, 2%) only pays off once you sell about $970 a month on Payhip, and Pro ($99/month, 0%) at about $3,500 a month.

Can I use Payhip as a TpT Exclusive seller?

Not for paid digital teaching resources. From January 1, 2027, Exclusive sellers can only sell those on TpT. You can still give freebies away elsewhere.
