Is selling on TpT still worth it in 2027?
TpT still has the buyers. In 2027 you either pay more of each sale for them or agree to sell nowhere else. Which deal is fair depends on whether you have an audience of your own.
What changed for 2027
- Premium ends on January 1, 2027. It paid 80% and let you sell anywhere.
- Exclusive replaces it: 77.5% and $59.95 a year, but paid digital teaching resources can only be sold on TpT.
- Basic stays at 55% plus $0.30 per resource, and lets you sell elsewhere. New sellers pay $29 once.
- AI-generated content is being banned from resources, covers and descriptions. See TpT's AI ban.
What you keep per sale
| $1.50 | $5 | $10 | Sell elsewhere? | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1.01 | $3.88 | $7.75 | No | |
| $0.53 | $2.45 | $5.20 | Yes | |
| $1.08 | $4.31 | $8.91 | Your own store |
Exclusive's $59.95 yearly fee isn't spread per sale. Payhip with card fees at 2.9% + $0.30, single-item order. Full breakdown: TpT seller fees for 2027.
Worth it: you have no audience yet
If you don't have an email list, a Pinterest following or a blog, almost all your buyers will come from TpT's search. No other site sends teachers in those numbers. A higher rate somewhere else is worth little when nobody visits.
Exclusive's $59.95 pays for itself after about 42 sales of a $5 resource, so most active stores come out ahead on it. Start on Basic if you're not sure you'll reach that.
Worth splitting: you already sell to your own people
If buyers already come from your list or socials, Exclusive means sending them to TpT too, where you keep $3.88 of a $5 sale. On your own Payhip store the same sale keeps $4.31, and those buyers would have bought anyway. Many sellers in this spot go Basic: they keep TpT for discovery and send their own audience to a store they control. The Exclusive vs Basic calculator shows how much you'd need to sell off TpT to come out ahead.
Worth leaving: only if TpT barely sells for you
Leaving TpT entirely makes sense when your TpT sales are small and your own audience is not. For everyone else, the question isn't whether to sell on TpT. It's which tier, and whether to add a second store. TpT alternatives compares every option.
Whatever you decide, keep a copy
TpT has no listing export. Your titles, descriptions, prices and tags only live on TpT, and the AI ban means listings can be pulled. A backup takes a few minutes and keeps every option open.
Questions
Is selling on TpT worth it in 2027?
For most sellers without their own audience, yes: TpT is still where teachers search for resources, and no other site sends anywhere near as many buyers. What changed is the price. Basic keeps 55% of each sale, and the better 77.5% rate now requires selling paid digital resources only on TpT.
Is TpT Exclusive worth $59.95 a year?
On a $5 resource, Exclusive keeps $1.43 more per sale than Basic, so the yearly fee pays for itself after about 42 sales. The real cost is giving up every other store for paid digital resources.
Should new sellers start on TpT?
Usually, yes. A new store has no email list or followers, and TpT's search is the cheapest way to get first sales. Basic costs $29 once for new sellers; Exclusive costs $59.95 a year.
Does the AI ban make TpT less worth it?
Only if your store relies on AI-generated text or images. TPT said it will remove AI-generated content, including covers and descriptions, and a written policy is still pending. Stores built from your own work aren't affected.
